How to Treat Ear Mites

We all want to make sure that our pets are as happy and healthy as they can be. To ensure the wellbeing of their pets, pet owners need to remain vigilant and observe their pet’s behavior. If you see your pet scratching their ear a lot, it could indicate an ear mite infestation. If your pet is infested with ear mites, you must act quickly. Duarte Azusa Animal Hospital is here to help you better understand ear mites and how they can be dealt with.

How to Tell if Your Pet Has Ear Mites

Ear mites cause your pet a significant amount of frustration. There are several signs of ear mites you should be aware of, including changes in your pet’s behavior and appearance. Constant shaking of the head and scratching of the ears is a telltale sign of ear mites. More explicit symptoms of ear mites include red-brown scabs, missing patches of fur around the ears, and head sores. If your pet exhibits any, or several, of these symptoms, you should contact our veterinarian as soon as possible.

What Does Vet Care for Ear Mites in Pets Entail?

First, our veterinarian will inspect your pet for ear mites. If our veterinarian detects ear mites, they will quickly begin treatment. Delaying treatment for too long poses a risk of hearing loss and other serious issues for your pet. Our veterinarian will begin by flushing the ear mites out of your pet’s ear. After your pet’s ears have been thoroughly flushed, our vet will apply anti-parasite treatment to your pet’s ears. This treatment must be applied several times a day at home until your pet’s condition improves, which typically takes a month.
